 Our team of spinners produce Alpaca yarns using traditional methods of cleaning and spinning. We are currently involved in a teaching project to encourage and involve our local community to spin, hand knit and weave the yarns into top quality garments for that exquisite ‘wearing’ experience.
We specialize in creating felted fabrics and felt products for scarves, shawls, jackets, throws, cushions, lampshades, wall panels and hangings. Felt is an intriguing process of transforming natural fleece into a unique fabric which has no warp and no weft like woven fabrics; does not fray, and is infinitely versatile. Our products are unique items for the high-end fashion and interior design industries.
Qualities that make Alpaca Fibre so valuable
- Alpaca fibre is extremely fine, soft and smooth to the touch, with little guard hair.
- Is compatible with either the woolen or worsted manufacturing systems.
- Has a hollow core giving it excellent insulative or thermal qualities.
- Has a rich silky sheen which has high visual appeal in the apparel industry.
- Is 30% warmer than the same weight of merino wool.
- Is stronger and more durable than wool and does not pill in the better quality animals – its strength does not diminish as it becomes finer
